Atlantic City, New Jersey — The speculation is over, Jeremy Horn will
be back in the UFC in August, fighting Chuck Liddell for the light
heavyweight championship at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The fight, which both camps have been trying to sign for months, is a
remtach of a 1999 encounter at UFC 19, where Horn choked Liddell out
after 12 minutes in the first round.
It will also be the first time Horn will be back in the UFC since his
February 2001 loss to Elvis Sinosic at UFC 30. Since that time, Horn
has been one of the most prolific fighters in MMA and is ranked as the
No.1 185-pound fighter in the world.Over the years, rumors spread that
personal grudges where keeping Horn from fighting at the highest level.
Stepping up to 205-pounds should be no problem for Horn, who lives by a
"anyone, anywhere, anytime," credo. It will be Liddell's first defense
since winning the light heavyweight title from Randy Couture in April.
Couture will also be on the card, taking on Mike Van Arsdale in what
amounts to a must-win for the former champion. Van Arsdale is dropping
from the heavyweight division after a decision victory of John Marsh at
UFC 52.
Rounding out the top of the card will be a stellar match-up between
welterweight contenders Frank Trigg and Georges St. Pierre. This fight
was rumored to be on a live broadcast on SpikeTV in August, but will
apparently be on the UFC 54 "Boiling Point," card instead.
UFC 54 will be August 20 at te MGM Grand's Garden Arena in Las Vegas. |
