Las Vegas, Nevada -- In a one-sided fight that included
several knockdowns and near-stoppages Chuck Liddell retained his light
heavyweight title when Jeremy Horn verbally submitted in the fourth
round of the main event of UFC 54 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Liddell crafted what was perhaps one of the most dominant performances
in recent memory, effectively stuffing each of Horn’s takedowns and
controlling the stand-up game with hard punches that stunned Horn often
and dropped him to the canvas on several occasions.
In the title defense, Liddell set a record for wins in the
Octagon with 12, surpassing Royce Gracie’s previous mark. In the end,
though Horn was overmatched, he remained game. His heart and chin were
outdistanced only by Liddell’s superior skills.
