Speculation regarding the Ultimate Fighting Championship's light
heavyweight division has started to generate a little steam lately.
When questioned about a rubber match with Randy Couture in an interview
with Ally Clark of maxfighting.com, champion Chuck Liddell confirmed
the possibility stating, "...that depends on things like injuries and
stuff, but if all goes well then we will meet again in February."
In a recent interview with MMAWeekly, Randy Couture also confirmed the
fight. "Nothing has been signed yet, but we've both verbally agreed to
fight" at the UFC's Super Saturday show in February, stated the former
champion.
The two first fought on June 6, 2003 for the interim UFC Light
Heavyweight Championship due to difficulties in getting Tito Ortiz to
defend that actual light heavyweight title. Couture dominated Liddell,
stopping him with a barrage of punches and forearms from the mount in
the third round.
On April 16th of this year, it was Liddell that turned the tables on
Couture in their rematch, knocking him out for the first time in his
career, little more than two minutes into the first round. |
