On Monday, February 27, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® was introduced in front of both the Assembly and Senate of the California State Legislature in Sacramento. During session, Chuck was commended by both houses for serving as a voice for athlete safety in his testimony before the California State Athletic Commission and other regulatory bodies, and was presented a resolution by Senator Jim Battin (SD-37) in recognition of his service as one of the great ambassadors of the sport of mixed martial arts.
The Senate and the Assembly also acknowledged UFC 59: REALITY CHECK
asthe first-ever UFC® event to be held in the state of California. UFC
59, taking place at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, sold out in less
than three weeks, making it the fastest sell-out in UFC history.
The Legislature’s resolution follows the California State Athletic
Commission’s completion of its mixed martial arts regulatory package on
December 28, 2005, which provides a safe, regulated environment in
California for mixed martial arts athletes.
The sport of mixed martial arts is expected to be a major economic
force for the State Athletic Commission, and is expected to bring new
revenue to California.
