The California Narcotic Officers’ Association held its annual Training Symposium at the Hyatt Grand Champions and Esmeralda Resorts is Indian Wells on November 16-21, 2006. The Conference ended with an entertainment evening with UFC legends Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, Randy “The Natural” Couture, and UFC referee “Big” John McCarthy who is also a LAPD officer. “Theses warriors were extremely well received and each were given huge standing ovations on their introductions and at the end of the event.” All three signed autographs, posed for pictures, and talked with the cops for three hours.
“Big” John McCarthy offered a training class to many of the officers at
his new “Ultimate Training Academy” in Valencia, California.
The President of CNOA, Michael Kennedy, who’s son is a MMA fighter,
thanked Chuck, Randy, and John for their support to our Armed Forces
personnel, our Police Officers, and our Communities with visits like
this, Iraq, and “Make a Wish”.
All three took time from their schedules to be present at the
Conference that had over 2000 law enforcement professionals from
California, 15 other States and other nations. The Training was
presented on 37 current and relevant topics from Patrol to Specialized
Investigations, and Courtroom testimony. CNOA also presented its
prestigious annual awards.
The California Narcotic Officers’ Association represents over 7000 law
enforcement professionals who enforce California’s controlled substance
laws. It’s very dangerous work. Eighty names on the Peace Officers’
Memorial Wall are members of CNOA. Included among those eighty names
are two former Presidents of CNOA, which include Special Agent
Supervisor Bill Garvey who was killed in 2005.
CNOA provides more training than any other professional organization in
the state. In the last 10 years CNOA has trained over 70,000 officers
with over 1 million hours of training.
